Attractions and location

Day Game Drives

The Siana Conservancy offers fantastic game viewing opportunities with our professional Maasai Guides. Enjoy the fresh morning breeze, watch the sun rise and experience the African bush coming to life as you explore this beautiful private 35,000 acre Conservancy. Guests can view the stunning wildlife, including the big cats, elephants, giraffe and a variety of plains game, without interference from other vehicles.

Night Game Drives

As the Spirit of the Masai Mara is located in a private conservancy, we can offer our guests the exhilarating experience of night game drives, which is an opportunity to spot the lesser seen animals of the ecosystem, including Aardvarks and Porcupines that come out to forage long after the sun has set. Witness the nocturnal activities that go on using our red spotlight instead of a white light, which does not disturb the animals, and ensures their comfort in the natural surroundings.

Game Drive in the Masai Mara National Reserve

Upon request, we can offer game drives in the world famous Masai Mara National Reserve for guests to experience the wonder of this magnificent destination with a stunning kaleidoscope of wild and rugged landscapes, its spectacular natural diversity of wildlife, and the Maasai people that call this place home.  The Mara is renowned for the great Migration, when each year this area welcomes 1.5 million wildebeests onto its savannahs from July through October, an exciting and never ending cycle of nature that unfolds at every turn, from exhilarating river crossings to action packed moments across the plains, as the predators make the most of this voracious opportunity.

Cost: Non Resident Park fees (US$ 80 per adult)

Self-Drive ‘Behind the Wheel’

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to drive a 4x4 vehicle off-road and experience the exhilarating feeling of being behind the wheel in the African bush? It is an exciting adventure to navigate the savannahs, cross ravines and steer ones way through a rocky river! Accompanied by one of our expert Maasai Guides, our guests can drive our 4x4 safari vehicles and really feel what it is like to explore this beautiful landscape!

Bush Breakfast / Lunch

For that wild experience, we organize bush breakfast / lunch for a chance to enjoy your freshly prepared meal, al fresco, in the middle of the savannah, surrounded by wildlife.

Sundowners

Experience the spectacular African sunset with your favourite cocktail and specially prepared canapés or roast your own marshmallows around a roaring camp fire. Listen to the sounds of the bush, as the sky fades and the first stars start to glimmer above. Watch as colourful Maasai warriors chant their tales of old, beckoning our guests to join in the traditional custom of leaping into the air to see who can jump the highest. As darkness desends, its time to leave, heading back to the lodge with a short night game drive en route.

Escorted Bush Walk

We offer our guests the exciting adventure of a walking safari in the Siana Conservancy. Get closer to nature as you feel, smell, hear and touch wild Africa. Our specially trained Maasai guides will ensure your safety at all times while explaining to you the traditional medicinal uses of different shrubs and trees as well as the tracks and spoors of the animals in the Siana Conservancy. The smaller creatures such as dung beetles, chameleons and small gazelles are the true stars of our walking safaris. You will have time to appreciate the intricacies of this diverse eco system that is a fundamental part of the Masai Mara.

Hole in One

Take your best shot from our tee located on top of the hill, behind the lodge, with its spectacular views of the conservancy beyond. Can you get a hole in one? We provide golf clubs and environmentally friendly golf balls and tees. Proceeds from purchasing the gold balls goes to the local community.

Infinity Pool

Rediscover your senses in our tranquil infinity pool. Take a refreshing dip and then unwind on our sundeck and enjoy the panoramic views of the Masai Mara.

Stargazing in the Mara

The night sky is magical in the Masai Mara. Explore the stars with our telescope and marvel at the beauty of the endless canopy above.

Dining – a culinary experience

Go on a culinary safari, enjoy the creations of our chef, blending Kenyan and continental cuisine to perfection and experience the famous Kenyan hospitality at Spirit of the Masai Mara. Our a la carte menus and internationally trained chefs ensure an unforgettable fine dining experience. Enjoy a bush dinner with a specially designed menu and fine wines under the starlit sky or for a more intimate experience, dine in the privacy of your suite.

Special meal requests can be sent to us prior to arrival so arrangements can be made accordingly. We are a family friendly lodge and cater to all ages, offering a kids menu with a selection of dishes and earlier meal times can be arranged.

Organic Vegetable Garden

Our chefs are creating a unique blend of Kenyan and Continental cuisine with carefully sourced ingredients. To offer our guests fresh products and to reduce our air and road miles we have created our own organic vegetable garden where we grow various herbs, lettuce, spinach, beetroot, cucumbers and even edible flowers. Used in crisp garden-fresh salads and chilled soups you will taste the difference!

Badminton in the Wild

Enjoy a game of badminton on the lawn in front of the lodge. You can choose to play singles, doubles or a team of more to add a twist of fun. Spectators may include a variety of wildlife, as you battle it out to be crowned winner of this fun racquet sport.

Maasai Training – Traditional Skills

There is so much fun to be had learning the traditional customs of the Maasai warrior. These include building and starting a fire, spear throwing, using a bow and arrow to practice shooting a stationary target. Find out how they used a ‘rungu’ for hunting in the old days and skills required to track animals. Learn about the medicinal properties of the local plants and shrubs, including some very practical uses, such as brushing teeth! Delve into their fascinating history and hear all about their culture and what it means to be Maasai.

Manyatta Building

Manyatta building is a great way for children to immerse themselves in the Maasai culture and learn how a traditional boma is made, starting with gathering the soft sticks that are intertwined to create the structure. Once this has been done, it’s time to get messy and mix the mud, using soil, grass and water, which all kids love doing! The stick structure is then covered with several layers of mud and then left to dry in the sun. The roof is last and can be made from almost anything including sticks, reeds, tin or anything that will lay flat. A fun, engaging and educational activity for all ages!

The Community Experience – visit a Maasai Village

At The Spirit of the Masai Mara we have a deep connection with the local community and we are always looking at ways for our guests to feel like they have made a genuine connection, especially with the people that live here and make it what it is. Spirit of the Masai Mara offers excursions to the nearby Maasai village for a first-hand experience of the Maasai culture and lifestyle. Enjoy the traditional Maasai dances and jumping contests and learn from the Maasai how to make a fire and use a spear and bow and arrow. If you are lucky, you can experience the ceremonial rituals when young Maasai transition from childhood to warrior to elder. The visits to the Masai village are only arranged on special requests of our guests and at the convenience of our Maasai hosts.

Cost: US$20 paid directly to community

Hot Air Balloon Safaris
